About Steve Rodgers No, the ‘d’ is not silent.

I have been writing most of my life–essays, technical writing, financial self-help books. But my speculative fiction efforts restarted several years ago, when I decided to finish an idea for a novel that had been sloshing around in my head since I was a teenager. This time, with a little more life experience under my belt, it flowed onto the keyboard. This book-writing exercise eventually became a monumental undertaking, which culminated in the epic quadrology “Spellgiver”.

Spellgiver is a tale of enormous forces that cannot be controlled, and the frail humans who try anyway (see Spellgiver tab on this website). This tale has received high acclaim both from hard-edged review sites like Kirkus/Foreword Reviews, and from real readers. Both Spellgiver Book 1 “City of Shards” and Spellgiver Book 2 “In the Claws of the Indigen” are on Amazon. Book 3 “Secrets of the Land” is being written now, and book 4 will follow soon after that.

After I finished the first two books, I put them on a shelf and started writing short stories. I have written over thirty, which I submitted in the 2013 – 2016 time period. In that time, I received 15-16 publications and multiple honorable mentions from the Writers of the Future (see Short Stories tab). My short stories have received acclaim from most who have read them, and I hope to release an anthology some time in 2019.

In late 2016, I stopped writing/submitting short stories to re-focus on Spellgiver, and finally bring Books 1 and 2 into the light of day. This massive birthing event was finally completed in 2018, when I released books 1 and 2 in April and May of that year.  I also released the novella “Mountain Witch”, which is a prequel set in the world of Spellgiver. Books 3 and 4 of Spellgiver are forthcoming.

I live in Southern California with my wife and golden retriever. I’m an engineer by trade.

… generally, very few well-rested souls will ponder what happens if people start getting biomods right and left, instead of tattoos. Or just what is behind those ancient Polynesian myths of cannibalism. Or whether the cybernetic supermen of the future are likely to oppress the rest of us.
